Scotty McCreery's Chart Success
American Idol winner and Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope artist Scotty McCreery has soared into the Top 25 on the Billboard charts after only three weeks of the release of his history-making debut single, “I Love You This Big.” He performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last Wednesday.
The song jumped three slots, from No. 28 to No. 25, on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart last week, giving it an increase of 3.5 million more listeners than the previous week. The song had the highest debut on this chart for a new artist’s first single since 1984. It jumped from No. 34 to No. 26 last week on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart, where it was the No. 2 top gainer in country.
Recently, Scotty made his debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry, performed with Josh Turner on LP Field during CMA Music Fest and began recording his debut album. He is now back in Los Angeles to begin rehearsals for the American Idols LIVE! Tour that begins July 6 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and runs through September.

"I've been here once before, two years ago with a church group," Scotty told The Boot, while Lauren admitted to coming several times. "I used to come here often, and I'd go in the little bars when they would let kids could come in, and I'd ask if I could sing," she remembered. "People didn't really know I was there but I thought it was cool."
Lauren, 16, and Scott, 17, shared another special experience when they debuted on the Grand Ole Opry on June 10. They are among the youngest performers to sing on the Opry stage, but Lauren says it's something she's looked forward to since she started performing.
"My daddy grew up playing banjo, and he always wanted to be on the Grand Ole Opry but he never got the chance," she explained. "When I started singing he wanted me to be the one to do that. So I was raised wanting to be on the Opry.
"My dad was at the Opry when I played there and we both cried. It's tough to see your dad cry because men don't really cry. Women cry all the time. I was really excited."
The two were also in town listening to songs for their upcoming albums. Each has individual contracts, although both have expressed an interest in one day recording together after they have established their individual careers. The two became fast friends while going through the 'American Idol' experience together.
"It's been super cool," said Scotty, who hails from Garner, N.C., of the time he has spent looking for songs to record. "Everyone has been nice and we're just honored to be here."
Lauren, from Russellville, Ga., agreed that it has been fun listening to new songs. "It is a lot easier to do covers (as when performing on the television show) that people already like. It's kind of scary to think about coming out with songs you've never heard and see how people react to them.
"My album will definitely be country. I like a good tearjerker, and I like uptempo," she continued. "I haven't decided on any song for sure yet. I'm trying to make the best decisions I know how. I have a great team helping me so I'm excited about it."
The 'American Idol' winner admitted it was nice to be back in the south and where he has been able to find sweet tea, an oddity in California where he's been since joining the other 'Idol' participants. Lauren said she's just glad she's back in a part of the country where people speak with the same accent as she does!
Both were also excited to attend the CMA Music Fest, where they met many of their fans face-to-face. "I can say our careers were given a chance because of our fans. They voted for us and allowed us to do what we really love, and we love any chance we can get face to face with them," Lauren said.
Scotty agreed, saying, "It's so wonderful to finally get to meet them. We are double, triple thankful to them for voting for us and giving us this opportunity."
While Lauren made it clear that she and Scotty are friends, and not dating, she said it has been great for them to go through the 'Idol' and Nashville experience together. "Just having someone who understands where you are now, I'm really glad I got to go through this with Scotty. We went to school every day, we understand exactly what our lives have been like for almost a year now. It's good to have someone I can call and know he will understand. That's a friendship we'll have forever."

Scotty Journey Began in Clayton
This is a neat article!
Clayton's Idol is now the American Idol.
And several local people who helped Scotty McCreery along the way are thrilled for the 17-year-old Garner High School student.
McCreery's journey to becoming America's newest singing heartthrob actually started in Clayton, when he was 15 years old. He won the Clayton Idol singing competition – his first public appearance – as part of the town's annual Harvest Festival.
It was a competition he almost didn't enter.
During the summer of 2009, his mother Judy, who had bought At The Beach Tanning Salon on N.C. 42 West in Clayton, was in her shop along with her son and Shirley Lowe, a part-time salon employee who also worked for the Clayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
"It was a Sunday, and we were gearing up for Clayton Idol," Lowe said. "Scotty has his guitar in the car and Judy said 'Scotty, sing a song for Miss Shirley.'"
According to Lowe, the shy McCreery didn't want to. "He said, 'Mom, I can't sing in front of people; I don't want to,' " Lowe said. "I begged him and really encouraged him."
After all of the customers had left, McCreery got the guitar out of the car and performed "Long Black Train" by Josh Turner.
"He was great, and I told him he should try out for Clayton Idol," Lowe said. "He didn't want to do it, but Judy and I kind of forced him to do it. I told her we needed and wanted him to do it because we didn’t have enough people.
"So to appease me, she kept encouraging him. She even paid the $25 entry fee and signed his name to the
McCreery auditioned and made the finals, which were held at The Clayton Center on a Friday night in front of approximately 250 people.
"I almost had to push him out on stage," Lowe said. "He was nervous but did a great job."
Heidi Stump, executive director of The Clayton Center, remembers the performance.
"Scotty clearly left an indelible impression on everyone in the audience," she said. "You could hear people gasping when they heard his unique voice and that talent. We were thrilled that we were able to
Cash recalled her impression of the youngster. "I was blown away," she said. "You could see it in the crowd – when he started singing, everyone was just in awe, as I was. One of the judges (Cash said it was Ellis) just giggled; she couldn't really say anything because he was just so good.
"My eyes got real big. I looked at Faye, then looked at him and thought to myself, 'This young man has got a voice.' "
Cash said that McCreery had an ease and presence about him that belied his youth. "He seemed very mature and with it and had no nerves that you could see," she said. "He sang so well and was so composed. I was totally impressed and blown away."
After the Clayton Idol competition, Judy McCreery asked about other performing opportunities for her son. Cash suggested the Country Music Showcase at Johnston Community College.
McCreery auditioned for CMS in October 2009, weeks after winning Clayton Idol, and was placed in the February 2010 show. In between his audition and the show, McCreery also performed at the Clayton Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Village, singing outside the chamber building at the corner of Main and Barbour streets.
Debbie Dunn, who was the Associate Director of Performing Arts at JCC and director of the Showcase at that time, remembered that baritone voice.
"He had the kind of voice that makes your jaw drop open when you hear it," said Dunn, who now is the manager of the Historic Garner Auditorium. "I also remember what a good guitar player he was."
Shortly after appearing at JCC, McCreery opened for country star Jason Michael Carroll at a charity event for children at The Longbranch club in Raleigh. Anita Kennedy, who works with Lowe at the tanning salon, said, "Scotty told my husband he wasn't nervous. He walked out on that stage like he owned it and played with the band like he'd always played with them."
Following an appearance at the Historic Garner Auditorium with a bluegrass band, McCreery and his family decided to fly to Milwaukee last July so their son could try out for the 10th season of "American Idol."
"I don't think Scotty knew how good he was until he did Clayton Idol and saw the reaction of the crowd," Kennedy said. "Every time we saw him, he got better and better."
"Scotty was studio ready the very first time I heard him," Moffett said. "Besides having a phenomenal voice, he is just a regular, normal sweet kid who is very genuine – like a breath of fresh air.
"He doesn't try to come off as something he's not – he's a plaid-shirt, blue-jean wearing kid who loves his family, his friends, sports and his faith. He is unpretentious and not a phony. He's the kind of kid who every mother wants to marry her daughter."
To show how much they have meant to him, McCreery's family invited Lowe and Kennedy to attend the April 7 Idol taping in which Pia Toscano was voted off.
"It's one of the most amazing things that's happened to me," Lowe said. "All along, he has thanked me for the part I had in (his journey) and tells me how much I have meant to him and that maybe all of this happened for a reason."
Kennedy added, "He was really happy to see me and Shirley. He told us he loved us, gave us a big hug and was so grateful to us for coming."
Lowe was at her cousin's house in Wilmington on grand finale night May 25 and was confident Scotty would win.
When AI host Ryan Seacrest announced McCreery as the winner, Lowe said she "probably screamed loud enough to wake up the neighbors."
"Even though I knew he was going to win, it was still very exciting," she said.
Dunn, who attended the Final 13 taping of Idol in March and helped the McCreery family with his homecoming show in Garner, was among the 8,200 fans at the RBC Center for the Idol finale viewing party.
"I've been in many places that were loud,' she said. "It was the loudest in terms of decibel level I had ever heard. It was like being at a sporting event where everyone in the arena is cheering for the same team."
Lowe said success has not changed McCreery, that he is the same kid who performed at Clayton Idol 18 months ago.
"The only difference between Scotty then and Scotty now is that he knows more people and more people know him. His character is real, and that's what makes him a star. I think it's his upbringing – his parents are wonderful people and that's the kind of person Scotty is, very special."
Dunn had a bold prediction for McCreery's future. "Country music fans are loyal and widespread," she said. "If that is what he chooses to do, I think Scotty will be the male version of Carrie Underwood (the 2005 AI winner).
"In two or three years, he'll be the one winning all of the awards. He carries himself with integrity and is someone we can all look up to, even though he's young."

Lauren On Songwriting & Those Pesky Dating Rumors & More
Lauren sat down with The Boot to chat about if any of her songs (that she has written) will be on her album, the first time she heard "Like My Mother Does" on the radio. Here's a preview!
"How often do you write?"
Lauren: I write as much as I can, but I've been really busy lately, so I've got to get back into it. I want to write with Taylor Swift! But I think that's kind of impossible. [laughs] And Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood -- I like that they're singers and writers, too ... I just want to meet those people! [laughs]
"Now that you're putting together an album, will you insist that some of your self-penned songs make the track list?"
Lauren:"We're still in the process of figuring things out. If I could do some of my songs, that would be cool. But I have to do whatever is best for my album."
"When was the first time you heard 'Like My Mother Does' on the radio?"
Lauren: "It was on my way to Nashville on Monday! We were riding in the car and I heard [imitating a radio deejay], "Coming up next is Lauren Alaina, our hometown sweetheart!" They played my song, and I was crying!"
"You've had to shoot down pesky rumors that you're dating Scotty. Is that starting to annoy you, or do you just laugh it off?"Lauren:"It's not annoying. I asked for it! [laughs] I kissed him on live TV! So I can't get annoyed when I did that. It's my fault. I was just excited and happy for him. We're friends, like brother and sister. It wasn't like [fakes a deep, sultry voice], "Come here and let me lay a smooch on you!" [laughs]"

Scotty Chats about Faith,Moving to Nashville & More
The Boot caught up with Scotty in Nashville this past week at CMA Fest! Here's a preview!
"What kind of pressure comes with having won American Idol?"
Scotty: "It's a lot of pressure. Just the title of 'American Idol' is something that people can look up to. I'm not Saint Scott, I'm not Mr. Perfect but I want to be that role model. I want to go down the same road that Carrie Underwood did -- kinda separate myself from 'Idol.' Because when you think of Carrie Underwood now, you don't think "'American Idol' Season Four winner," you just think "Carrie Underwood." I want to cross that bridge. There's a lot of pressure and work that goes into it, but I'm looking forward to it."
"Your faith plays such an important part in your life. Will it play a part in the music you record?"Scotty:"One thing I love about Josh Turner is his faith, that's why I looked up to him so much. All the albums he's had have had at least one Christian song, like 'The Answer' on his last album and 'Long Black Train.' So I'm hoping to have that on my album -- that one Christian song."
"How do you think your young age might help you versus how it might hurt you in country music?"Scotty:"I'm not sure if it's going to help me or hurt me. Teen males have never really made it in country music, so it's going to be tough for me. I've talked to people who've laid out a game plan, but there's no formula for me. We can't go by what other guys are doing who are 40 years old in this industry. We have to go by something totally new and hope it works. I'm looking forward to seeing how the country world embraces a teen male country singer."

"Scotty Triggers extended freakout at CMA Fest"
From Lucas Henderson at CMA Music Fest
"From this reporter's observation, Scotty McCreery brought about the most extended individual freakout witnessed in 10-plus years of covering the event. After exiting the autograph line at the Idol winner's appearance in Fan Fair Hall Friday afternoon, a teenage girl walks over to her waiting family, very quietly says, "I got his signature" once before shrieking the phrase at the top of her lungs four more times and then breaking down in tears. That, dear reader, is a fan."
